Moves We Did (And Shouldn't Have) — And the Moves We'd Never Touch

Episode 9 of Cheating at Blackjack
Not every move that worked was a move we should have done. And not every technique in the cheating world is one we'd ever go near, no matter how tempting the payoff looked.
Episode 9 splits down the middle: the moves we got away with but probably shouldn't have risked, and the moves real cheats stay far away from entirely.

The Second Deal — and the Tell That Gives It Away
The second deal looks simple in theory: hold back the top card, deal the one underneath it instead. In practice, it's one of the hardest moves to do cleanly. We break down the exact tell — the top card stays perfectly still while the second card blurs as it's pulled free — a difference so precise that even grainy 80s surveillance footage could catch it, if anyone knew to look.

The Mad Bender
One of the wildest stories in this episode: a player who bent his cards into literal pretzels at the table — and the entire pit, dealers included, silently went along with it. It's a story about how far complicity can stretch once enough people are quietly in on something, and what happens when the game gets shut down from the inside.

Moves We'd Never Do
Not everything on this episode is something we're proud of pulling off. We also get into the moves that cross a line even for us — from the Greek bottom deal to the classic full deck cooler, techniques so high-risk that the reward was never worth the exposure.

The Real Takeaway
By the end of the episode, the thesis is clear: it's easier to take off a casino as a dealer and an agent working together than it ever is trying to beat the game from the outside, alone. Every move discussed here — the ones we did and the ones we never touched — comes back to that same principle.

This episode also marks a first for the show: our first time filming with green screen graphics, including a great vintage VHS tape visual to go along with the surveillance-tech discussion.
