Five hundred cheating plays. Four years. Multiple Las Vegas casinos. And not once did anyone catch me.
People ask me that question more than any other. How? How did you walk into those casinos night after night, steal from them in plain sight, and walk away clean every single time? The honest answer surprises most people. It wasn’t the moves The moves were good. The Flash, stacking the deck, beating the cut — years of practice had made them nearly invisible. But plenty of skilled card mechanics have been caught over the years. Skill alone doesn’t keep you safe. What kept me safe was something much simpler. And much more difficult. Discipline I Never Drank Not before a play. Not during. Not after — at least not until we were well clear of the casino and certain nobody was watching. Alcohol changes you in ways you don’t always notice yourself. It loosens your judgment. It makes you bold when you should be careful. It makes you linger when you should leave. It makes you talk when you should be quiet. A single drink at the wrong moment could have unraveled four years of careful work. I wasn’t willing to take that risk. Not once. I Never Did Drugs Same principle, higher stakes. Drugs alter your perception, your timing, your ability to read a room. In a casino — where your survival depends on reading everything correctly, all the time — that’s not a trade-off worth making. I watched other people in that world make that mistake. They didn’t last. I Didn’t Associate With People Who Did This is the one that surprises people most. It wasn’t enough for me to stay clean personally. I couldn’t afford to be around people who weren’t. Not because I was judgmental — but because that world attracts attention. Law enforcement. Casino security. The wrong kind of people. If you’re standing next to someone who brings heat, you inherit their heat. I had no interest in that. I was deliberate about who I spent time with, where I went, and what my life looked like from the outside. A Las Vegas blackjack dealer with no obvious vices and no suspicious associations. Nothing to see here. I Treated It Like a Job The most serious job of my life. I showed up prepared. I stayed focused. I left when the work was done. I didn’t get greedy. I didn’t push my luck beyond what the situation called for. Greed is what gets people caught. Ego is what gets people caught. Impatience is what gets people caught. I was none of those things — not at the table, anyway. Every decision I made for four years was filtered through three words. Don’t get caught. Not as a fear. As a philosophy. A standard I held myself to every single day, in every single situation, whether I was at the table or not. The Real Answer The moves got the money. The discipline kept me free. Anyone can learn a sleight of hand technique. Very few people have the sustained discipline to build a life around it — to protect it, to feed it, to never let a single moment of weakness undermine everything they’ve worked for. That’s why I was never caught. And honestly — that’s a principle that applies far beyond a Las Vegas blackjack table. In any high-stakes environment, the technical skill gets you in the room. The discipline keeps you there.
